Why I Started This Blog: Making Insurance Easier for Everyone

by CoverBuddy 2025. 5. 25.

Hi there, and welcome to CoverNote!

If you're here, chances are you've spent more than a few hours trying to figure out what your insurance actually covers — or maybe you're just starting to learn what things like “premium,” “deductible,” or “out-of-pocket maximum” mean. Either way, you're not alone. I’ve been there too — and that’s exactly why I created this blog.

Who Am I?

Let me get this out of the way: I’m not a licensed insurance agent. I’m not a lawyer or a financial advisor. I’m just someone who got tired of being confused every time I opened an insurance document or tried to compare plans online. Over time, I started keeping notes for myself. I organized definitions, broke down coverage comparisons, and started bookmarking articles that helped me understand the system better.

Eventually, I realized: If I’m spending this much time trying to understand it, others probably are too.

That’s where CoverNote comes in.

What Is This Blog About?

CoverNote is a simple, beginner-friendly guide to understanding insurance in the U.S. and Canada.

I’m building this blog as a collection of simplified, easy-to-read, and well-organized posts that help you:

  • Understand key insurance terms
  • Compare different types of plans
  • Know what to look for when choosing coverage
  • Learn the differences between U.S. and Canadian systems
  • Make more confident decisions when reviewing your options

Think of it like a notebook you can refer to when the terminology and policy language get overwhelming.

Why Focus on Insurance?

Because it affects all of us — and yet, very few people actually understand it well.

Whether it’s a health emergency, a car accident, or planning for the future with life insurance, we all rely on policies that we often didn’t fully understand when we signed up. That lack of understanding can cost us — in money, in stress, and in missed opportunities.

And honestly, most insurance websites don’t help much. They either try to sell you something or drown you in jargon. I wanted a place where people like me — not experts, just regular folks — could understand what we’re getting into.

What Can You Expect Here?

Here are just some of the topics I’ll be covering on CoverNote:

  • Insurance Basics: What are premiums, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance?
  • Health Insurance: Understanding private vs. public plans, HMOs vs. PPOs, and the Affordable Care Act
  • Car Insurance: What’s required in different states or provinces? What does "liability" really mean?
  • Life Insurance: The difference between term and whole life insurance
  • Canadian vs. U.S. Insurance: How systems, terminology, and access differ
  • Real-Life Scenarios: Case studies of how policies work in actual situations
  • Simple Guides: Glossaries, plan comparison charts, and checklists

Each post will be written in plain English, with helpful examples and summaries at the end.

Why the Name "CoverNote"?

Great question! In the insurance industry, a “cover note” is a temporary insurance document that serves as proof of coverage before the official policy is issued. I thought that was the perfect metaphor for what I’m doing here — offering you “coverage notes” that help you feel more prepared, even before you dive into the official paperwork.

What This Blog Is Not

This blog is not meant to replace professional advice. If you’re dealing with a specific claim or legal issue, you should always consult a licensed insurance professional or lawyer.

But if you just want to understand the basics better, or you want a simple explanation before calling your provider, then you’re in the right place.

One Last Note...

This blog is a space where I organize and share what I’ve learned about insurance in a simple, clear way.

I hope the information here helps you better understand your options, feel more confident in your decisions, and navigate insurance with a little less stress.

Thanks for visiting CoverNote.
